Latisse FAQ's

Q: What is LATISSE?

A. LATISSE is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for thicker, fuller, darker lashes.

Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is a prescription product made by Allergan, the trusted producer of Botox Cosmetic. Latisse was approved in early 2009 for the treatment of eyelash hypotrichosis, a condition marked by the inability to grow eyelashes. Latisse improves the appearance of your lash length, thickness and fullness. Easy to use and effective, it is a daily treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. Our patients typically see results starting at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks.

Q: How does LATISSE work?

A. Latisse contains the active ingredient found in Lumigan, a drug used to treat glaucoma. In fact, researchers discovered its eyelash enhancing properties by accident when glaucoma patients noticed that their eyelashes were growing following Lumigan treatments. The two prescriptions do differ in important ways: Lumigan is an eyedrop, while Latisse gets dabbed along the lash-line on the upper eyelids once a day.

It is believed that Latisse works by lengthening the eyelash growth phase. Every hair follicle on your body has a growth phase, and the length of time of the phases is different for each area of the body (and it can change over your lifetime too). By increasing the growth phase, this allows the hair follicles of your eyelashes to grow for a longer period of time, thereby growing longer and thicker, and becoming darker. It also shortens the time of the other phases, allowing lashes to regrow at a quicker pace than normal.
