Q. How is the Vi Peel different from other peels?
A. The Vi Peel is painless, yet produces dramatic visible results in just days with little to no downtime. Other peels of the past epitomize the “no pain, no gain” approach to skin care. Before the Vi Peel, the deeper the peel, the more painful, the more downtime, the better the results. Vi Peel is the first next generation aesthetic peel without the inconvenient side effects.
Q. How would the Vi Peel compare to the Obagi Blue Peel or a TCA Peel?
A. Unlike those peels, the Vi Peel requires no sedation to avoid pain. The Vi Peel is almost painless, and requires no skin pre-conditioning as required by the other peels. In addition, the Vi Peel has very few of the complications and hazards that can accompany those peels.
Q. Why is the Vi Peel better than laser treatments?
A. Any laser or IPL requires multiple sessions to achieve the results of one Vi Peel, with much less discomfort and much less expense for the procedure.
Q. How many treatments are required to show an improved look?
A. A single Vi Peel will significantly repair and add a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true, restorative and painless repair of damaged skin including pigmentation, sun damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles and acne. The Vi Peel stimulates skin’s natural collagen and elastin working as an aging preventive treatment.
Q. How many peels can you do and how far apart should they be done?
A. The frequency of the peel depends on various factors, and will be determined by your skin care professional. For extremely damaged skin, the Vi Peel can initially be done once a month to get quicker desired results.
For most patients, peels should be done three to four times a year starting at puberty to repair damage that is already present, and to avoid permanent scarring for those affected by acne.
Our recommendation for average skin would be once every three months to prevent damage and the underlying aging of the skin. Your skin care professional will evaluate your skin, as well as your goals and expectations and make an appropriate recommendation for ongoing skin care.
Q. Will results be long lasting?
A. Like everything else in life, skin needs maintenance. The Vi Peel’s results will last as long as skin care is maintained, adequate products are used, sun exposure is moderate and preventive aging with the Vi Peel is performed three or four times per year, or as recommended by your skin care professional.
Q. What types of skin respond well to the Vi Peel?
A. The unique blend of innovative ingredients (salicylic acid, retinolic acid, phenol acid and Vitamin C) allows all skin types to enjoy the benefits of the peel. For the first time, darker skin types including African-American, Asian and Latin complexions can experience anti-aging and restorative skin care previously unavailable.
Q. What will the Vi Peel do for my skin?
A. It tackles skin problems at the cellular level rather than just burning skin off. Thanks to the concerted actions of its many acids and vitamins, it will help erase fine lines and wrinkles, shrink enlarged pores and build collagen and elastin which tighten skin. It is extremely effective in practically eliminating hyper pigmentation including melasma, the most difficult pigmentation issue to address. The Vi Peel also provides excellent results for acne.
Q. How much preconditioning of the skin is required?
A. The Vi Peel requires no pre-conditioning of the skin associated with older generation peels that can take several months prior to treatment.
Q. Does it burn?
A. You may feel a slight stinging sensation for a few seconds which subsides almost immediately. The peel is applied topically, numbing of the skin takes place after the first pass. Some patients may feel more comfortable using a fan or cold air breeze.
Q. How badly will I peel?
A. The skin peeling associated with the Vi Peel is a light, fluffy peel that will start on day three and generally should be finished by the end of day four. In some cases, the peel is virtually invisible. Patients using Retin A may experience heavier peeling. The peel can be adjusted to produce a deeper, more aggressive peel, if necessary, depending on your skin condition.
Q. What will I look like right after the Vi Peel and during the next few days?
A. The skin will look slightly tan, yellow or red immediately after the peel. On days one and two the skin will feel slightly tighter, with no visible signs of having had a peel. Any pigmented areas might appear slightly darker. On approximately day three, you will begin to peel. The first signs of peeling usually begin around the mouth area and continue for a day or two. By day six or day seven you will be done peeling and the results are dramatic! If a more aggressive peel was performed, a secondary peel might occur around day seven.
Q. What about normal activities after the Vi Peel, including exercise?
A. There are no restrictions. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the peel. We ask that the solution be left on the skin for five hours prior to exercising, washing it off immediately before commencing exercise. However, exercise with extensive sweating is not recommended during the first 4 days after the application of the peel.
Q. Can I wear makeup after the Vi Peel?
A. While the long-term goal is to eliminate the need to use any makeup, it may be worn at any time after the peel solution has dried. Makeup should not be applied on the days that the skin is peeling, just moisturizer. Makeup can then be resumed at any time after the skin peels.
Q. What about the hands or chest?
A. The Vi Peel is incredibly effective in removing sunspots from the hands and chest and eliminating the wrinkles associated with sun damage on the décolletage.
Q. How long will the Vi Peel take?
A. Your appointment will take only about 20 minutes.
Q. What kind of final results will I see after a single Vi Peel?
A. It takes about 4-6 days after you finish peeling for the skin to return to its normal PH and to see the final effects. Your skin will look luminous and glowing. Hyper-pigmentation will be improved or gone, depending on the amount of damage. Tone and texture will be improved with an overall more youthful appearance.
Q. What should be used on the skin in conjunction with the Vi Peel?
A. Your skin care professional will go over in detail what you should use to care for your Vi Peel. We provide you with the products you will need to care for your skin during the peeling process.
Q. Does the Vi Peel make the skin thinner?
A. No. By sloughing off the old skin, forcing the body to recreate new skin at a faster rate in a sequence faster than its own rate, the skin actually thickens, stimulating the underlying structure to make more collagen and elastin.
Q. Will my skin be more sensitive after the Vi Peel?
A. The skin will only be more sensitive, if at all, during the peeling process itself. You may experience up to four days of sensitivity until PH of the skin is replenished.
Q. Can I go in the sun after the Vi Peel?
A. Sun exposure should be limited during and immediately after the procedure and adequate protection of an SPF 30 should be used. However, the Vi Peel was created to be practical. The only days where exposure to the sun should be seriously avoided are days three and four, when the skin is peeling, to avoid uneven exposure. After that, you can enjoy moderate sun exposure, continuing regular skin care maintenance.
Q. Will the Vi Peel tighten neck skin?
A. The Vi Peel has proven to help improve texture and quality with gradual softening of the lines and some tightening effects.
Q. What other areas can the Vi Peel be performed on?
A. Face, chest, hands and neck and all respond well to a Vi Peel.
Q. Can cold sore sufferers have a Vi Peel?
A. Yes. In some cases, pre-medication prior to the VI Peel may be recommended. If you break out with a sudden cold sore the day of the peel, often the Vi Peel will eliminate the sore and medication may be started concomitantly.
Q. Are teenage acne sufferers too young for the Vi Peel and would it help their acne?
A. The peel is excellent for both adult and adolescent acne. Results are quick and very impressive. Combined with a daily skin regimen, almost all acne cases can be readily and safely treated.
Q. Does the Vi Peel help with pre-cancerous cells?
A. Yes, the Vi Peel, like many other peels, helps to remove pre-cancerous cells. Of course, those with a history of skin cancer should always see their dermatologist or surgeon on a regular basis.
Q. Who will perform the Vi Peel?
A. A certified esthetician can perform the Vi Peel, as well as a licensed nurse or doctor.
