The Procedure

What is micro-pigmentation

Permanent makeup started in the Orient over 30 years ago. Permanent makeup has been very popular in the U.S. for the last 15 years. It is a field best suited for cosmetologists who have a more coherent sense and intuition of what a women desires.
Micro pigmentation (specialized form of tattooing) is a process where cosmetic grade pigments are injected into the dermal layer of the skin to permanently re-pigment, define and enhance areas of the skin’s surface.

Is it safe?

  • The equipment used for permanent makeup is specifically designed for the fine detail needed for implantation into the eyebrow, eyelid and lip area. The permanent makeup pen is lightweight and easy to hold, which makes it especially appropriate for delicate procedures.

  • Strict sanitation guidelines are followed in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control. Fresh pigments are used for your protection.

  • All equipment, most importantly, needles, needle chambers and needle covers are all factory sterilized and individually packaged and disposed of after each procedure. Chemical sterilization provides assurance that the equipment is free of microorganisms/bacteria.

  • As long as the area is kept clean and all aftercare instructions are followed, you shouldn’t have any problems.

How long will it last?

  • Once it is applied it will not wash off, smudge or smear.

  • Permanent makeup can last several years depending on your skin type and how well you care for it. Sun exposure breaks down color faster. Exfoliating treatments will also cause color to break down. If you are currently using exfoliating treatments, you should be careful to avoid the areas that have permanent makeup. Over time, your permanent make up can lighten and a touch up treatment may be needed.

During your procedure

  • Kathryn will then anesthetize the area with topical anesthetic and wait 30 minutes before beginning your procedure. This anesthetic provides total numbing to minimize any discomfort. A secondary anesthetic is available if you become uncomfortable.

  • The permanent makeup procedure can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the area.

  • Brows or lip liner will be drawn on according to the client’s preference; Kathryn will then tattoo over the drawing.

Permanent makeup aftercare

  • Keep Vitamins A & D ointment skin protection on the treated area five times a day for five days.

  • Do not swim or steam for five days. A shower is recommended.

  • Expect the treated area to be tender for the first few days.

  • Following your procedure, the area usually stays dark for the first five days. The makeup will settle and appear much softer in about seven days.  However, the intensity of the color depends upon the individual.

  • Eyes may be puffy for a day or two after your eyeliner procedure. Ice may be used to reduce the swelling.

  • Lips usually stay dark for 6-7 days, then fade dramatically.

  • Scratching or picking at the areas with new makeup may cause a loss of color.

  • The color and shape can be adjusted after the healing process.

  • Schedule your touch-up appointment 6-8 weeks following your initial procedure.

Is it safe to have a MRI if you have permanent makeup?

The concern here is that a pigment may contain iron oxide, which can cause local over heating of the affected area. Iron, which is affected by magnetic field, could be heated by magnetic induction. However, our pigments do not contain iron oxide.
