Wrinkles, creases, frown lines, crow feet – where do they come from?
One day you looked in the mirror and studied those lines that furrowed your brow, and wondered: Where did they come from?
Is it just aging? Too much sun? Too much stress? In general, how skin ages and wrinkles is a complex process. It isn’t just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, damage caused by free radicals, and so on; it’s a combination of many factors.
The lines that appear between your brows (glabellar lines) actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. You may have heard the expression “wearing your emotions on your sleeve,” but in reality you wear them on your face. If you’re angry or annoyed, for example, you knit your brows together. Underneath your skin, your facial muscles contract, cause a pleating of the overlying skin, and then, as anyone can se, you’re frowning.

After years of crinkling and wrinkling, those glabellar lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced. For women, whose faces tend to be more animated that men’s, and whose skin is typically more delicate, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent.

What is Botox® Cosmetic treatment?
It is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes the deep persistent lines that have developed over time between your brows, on your forehead or in the corners of your eyes.

What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause the frown lines between the brows to form over time.

How is it applied?
One ten-minute treatment – a few tiny injections – relaxes the muscles that cause those deep, persistent lines to form and keeps them relaxed up to four months.

When will I start to see results?
You should begin to see a significant improvement within a few days.

Is there any discomfort?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, your doctor or nurse may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and most people return directly to work or normal activity following Botox® Cosmetic treatment.

How long does it last?
Botox® Cosmetic lasts up to four months.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are dramatic, a treatment with Botox® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes the lines to form is simply reduced, so you can frown, smile, or look surprised without the creases and wrinkles.

Are there any side effects?
It’s unlikely that you’ll develop any significant side effects, but you may notice slight bruising where Botox® Cosmetic was injected. This is only temporary and can be covered by makeup. Rare side effects include headache, respiratory infection, flu-like symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea.

Is Botox® Cosmetic affordable?
When considering your facial aesthetic options, Botox® Cosmetic is very affordable. According to the survey carried out by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2003, Botox® Cosmetic is one of the least expensive facial aesthetic procedures in the United States. Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations.

How is the price determined?
The price depends on the number of Botox® Cosmetic units that are injected into the treated area. A typical treatment of frown lines, for instance, requires 20 units of Botox® Cosmetic.

What is your price per area?
Since everyone is different, the prices per area may vary – they always depend on the number of Botox® Cosmetic units injected into the area. This is determined during your consultation.

Who does the injecting?
To get the best results, it’s important to go to a doctor (or a registered nurse) who is experienced in administering Botox® Cosmetic. Medical practitioners at Dermavita have performed thousands of successful Botox® Cosmetic injections.

Where can I find more information about Botox® Cosmetic?

Do men use Botox® Cosmetic?
In nature, some male species have all the luck when it comes to looks. Think about a peacock and a peahen. It’s the male who’s got that gorgeous train, not the female. And the father of the lion family is the one with the glorious mane. With humans, it doesn’t always work that way, but the fact is, guys do care about their looks.

Why shouldn’t they? A man who goes to the gym to work out and cares about his clothes and grooming is a man who not only cares about his appearance, but what that says about him personally, as well as in business.

Men are also doing something about their brow lines.
A man who has pronounced lines between his brows may be perceived as angry or stressed – and he doesn’t want to look that way. That’s why it’s not surprising that men are also choosing Botox® Cosmetic, a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment.
A Botox® Cosmetic treatment requires little time out of the office. So, it’s possible to have the procedure done during a lunch hour and head right back to the office.
